Getting back on track. I'm re-evaluating my diet and beginning a journal to cut out the bad portions. Working out everyday.

Just found out that I love apples. Hated them when I was a kid so this is weird. I can eat 3 a day no problem.

I'm sticking with the new workout. I can already see gains in every muscle group and I feel better for it.

Those squats are killing me though, haha.

I'm also moving to a new apartment today. There's sure to be some heavy lifting involved.

Good to hear about the free weights, Chris - it's exciting and fun (and hurts like hell!) to move away from the machines. Bour is right on w/ the squats, check out those articles at stronglifts for some good pointers too.

And yes, beer was the challenge this weekend... I think I had about 12 Friday night and perhaps just more than 20 on Sunday. But it was parade weekend and it comes but once a year :)

Keep it up with barbell squats. They are the end all exercise, you'll notice gains everywhere once you start doing them regularly.

Just go all the way down, for the love of all things holy. All the way down...hell, go until you can't go down any more. Don't worry about the knees, you'll be fine.

Good luck

My new workout is in full swing and I'll admit that it's kicking my ass.

So much so that I'm actually gimping around the office because I haven't done squats since I was a freshman in high school. It's a split routine that has 4 different sessions including triceps/shoulders, back, legs and biceps/chest.

The machines simply don't provide the burn that you get from working with free weights, but it's kind of exciting in a way because the burn lets me know that I'm making progress.

Onward, forward.

I visited my brother out in Harrodsburg and went to a gun show out in lexington... It's fun! I've fired a belly gun like a naa .22 magnum, glock and mini, and an ar-15, I like the ar-15 rifle the best. I haven't gone to a shooting complex for a while though. Best place I went out shooting at is at Koko Head Shooting Complex in Hawaii. I miss it. I don't fit the stereotype either. who heard of an asian annie oakley? Kentucky is an awesome place to visit. Haven't been to the city though, but the outdoors I liked a lot.

---ellipticals suck, try the stairmaster (and I'm talking about the revolving stairs, not the stepping kind)

My weight chart is like it is because I have so much weight to lose. If I'm eating decently I'm going to have a downward trend. You are close to an ideal weight, so will be less likely to deviate much. I would suspect that with more weight training and proper eating (try to get 1.5g protein per lb of body weight), you will actually end up putting on some weight, though this is generally more difficult than losing.

In terms of daily weighing, I just do that because I like the constant feedback and it keeps me in check. Taking the last week off from the gym could have also led to poor eating choices, but since I monitor daily I have more incentive to keep on track.

Unfortunately I don't update the blog 'regularly', or more appropriately, as regularly as I'd like. About weekly I put something new on there, but wish I could update daily. Yet another thing I will be trying to improve :)

Have you gotten a chance to give the Stronglifts 5X5 a go?
Dave Nicholson
25th Feb '08 14:34:51
Yeah, I've been primarily lifting lately so the weight stagnates when that happens... I could eat less, but I like eating! I'll be adding in more cardio and hopefully start dropping a bit more consistently.

Your weight chart looks like it really wants to drop! Have you started w/ the BF% measurements yet?

yeah....I am. lol. Pray to whatever divinity you choose that I continue this.

Well....to be honest I don't drink all that much Starbucks anymore....after a year and a half, it loses a lot of it's greatness.

Plus, I've started to drink at least 24oz. of Iced Green Tea everyday from Starbucks. There isn't many days that make me want coffee after that.

I work a desk job for 9 hours, then a part time job for another 6. So my whole day is basically GONE, hence my 5am workouts. I'm going to try to start going to the gym everyday, and I'll have one day where I won't work quite as hard. But as I have a long way to go, I have to start living in the gym! This is the biggest I've ever been and I don't like it at all.
Cardio King
19th Nov '07 17:59:20
I think that'll be a weekend goal. I just don't have the time during the week while working 15 hours a day...but when I do my 30 minutes during the week I'm going to really push myself. If I can do about 550 calories in half an hour, then I'll be satisfied.
Cardio King
19th Nov '07 15:25:17
It's been a little eclectic the past few days. But since I have limited time in the mornings, and that's when I'll be working out, I'm going to do 30 minutes on the elliptical every other day and 30 minutes of weight training the other days with a day of rest thrown in there somewhere. So I think my graph will start to level out. I wish I could do an hour on the elliptical. My legs rebel severely after 40 minutes!

17th Nov '07 04:38:33
I just printed out a small calendar and have been marking off on that one. But I've been so busy with work that I've had no time to work out this week! I'm going tomorrow and Sunday for sure though and I'll try AGAIN to get my morning routine going in the coming week
Cardio King
16th Nov '07 14:14:24
Man, nice job on the training! I wish I could do an hour on the elliptical! I haven't been able to go to the gym much this week because I've been working INSANE hours. But I'm going to get back in the habit of going. I've been eating pretty well, so I've still been losing a little weight. I think I've lost a pound this week. Let's keep each other posted with more updates.

I know...I know...I'm going to try to get back into the habit of logging in everyday. I've been so lazy these past few weeks...and my weight gain is evidence of that. Gotta get back on track!!!

yeah, about that, I'm sorry. There are legitimate reasons for my absence. I hate to say excuses. I'm about at that mode where it's a marathon race with me, fighting off deadlines and exams and work. I feel sorry for my family, but it's my mom who pushed me do do this for myself anyway. I went to the gym around 9p and stayed til closing ( left around 11:50p)... Usually I sleep/warm down in the sauna so I won't feel muscle soreness the next day. Mornings for now is my study time to keep the information fresh in my head (if I don't have work that morning). Is that 2 pounds you lost? and yes, carbs from alcoholic beverages are easy to gain. For me, once I eat hawaiian food, I have a guilt trip for days because those things amazingly add 2 pounds after you eat half a regular plate lunch. never again...
Chris H
23rd Oct '07 12:02:31
It seems like I lose weight during the week and then gain it back on weekends. Maybe it's the fact that I live at the bars on Friday and Saturday. yeah...about that...
GiGi ...
11th Oct '07 19:24:28
yep. same sentiments here. 3 out of 6 attempts I actually succeed. It's hard, but it helps to think about it this way: I'm beating the sun! and then the outside looks all gray and pretty... and then some days, I wouldn't give a ****. 3 out of 6...

Hey Chris,

What does your workout routine usually consist of?
GiGi ...
1st Oct '07 03:50:38
hey,
i heard this theory from this personal trainer I bumped into at the gym.
he said to work out in the morning (within an hour from getting up in the morning) to get at least 20 min cardio with an empty stomach to burn up stored fat... I'm basing my wo routine on that. He was pretty credible considering that he was cut and was actually a certified trainer. Good Luck! thanks for the add.
